Gastric Problem Symptom, Causes and Treatment

Many of us are suffering from gastric problems and to solve this problem today we will try to explain gastric problems in detail in this post.
Gastric Problem Symptom, Causes and Treatment

What is gastric

When the lining of the stomach is damaged due to any reason and inflammation occurs, the disease is called gastritis in medical terms. Many of us call this disease gastric or gastric problem. This disease can be caused by many reasons.

In most people this problem is not serious. Quick recovery with treatment. But it can last for years if left untreated.

Gastric Symptoms

Many people have no symptoms when the disease is caused by a bacterial infection. Others may experience the following symptoms:
  • indigestion
  • Stomach gnawing or heartburn
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Feeling full after eating

If the lining of the stomach erodes (erosive gastritis) and is exposed to stomach acid, symptoms such as pain, bleeding, or stomach ulcers may appear along with the above symptoms.

These symptoms can start suddenly (acute gastritis) or develop slowly over time (chronic gastritis).

When to go to the doctor?

If you have indigestion, you can try to solve it yourself by changing your diet and lifestyle or by taking medicines like antacids. But before taking antacid yourself, you must know whether this medicine is safe for you, how to consume it and the side effects.

Consult a doctor for gastric problems if:
  • Your indigestion symptoms last a week or more, or severe stomach pain or discomfort caused by indigestion.
  • Which drugs seem to be causing the problems?
  • Vomiting or passing blood in stools, black stools, or something that looks like coffee grounds
Abdominal pain is not necessarily a symptom of gastric problems. Abdominal pain can be caused by many reasons, such as trapped air, irritable bowel syndrome, etc.

Gastric Test

Your doctor may recommend one or more of the following tests.
  • Stool test – Through this test, it is seen whether there is any bacterial infection in the stomach or whether blood is going from the stomach or not.
  • Breath test – This test is done to check for Helicobacter pylori infection. A person is asked to drink a glass of liquid containing clear, tasteless, radioactive carbon and blow into a bag.
  • Endoscopy – A flexible tube is passed through the throat and down the esophagus to the stomach to look for signs of inflammation.
  • Barium swallow – A solution of a chemical called barium will be given to eat. As the solution passes through the digestive tract, it is clearly visible on x-rays and helps in diagnosis.

Causes of Gastric

Common causes of this disease are:
  • Infection with bacteria called Helicobacter pylori
  • smoking
  • Regular use of any pain medication such as aspirin, ibuprofen or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory
  • Events that put stress on the body, such as major operations, serious injuries or any serious illness
  • Excessive cocaine or alcohol use
  • In some cases, the body's immune system mistakenly attacks its own body. This disease occurs when the lining of the stomach is attacked.

Gastric Treatment

The 3 main goals of gastric treatment are:
  1. Reducing the amount of acid in the stomach relieves the symptoms
  2. Healing the lining of the stomach
  3. Finding out if there is an underlying cause of the disease and treating it

Medicines that are used:

  • Antacids – These readily available medications relieve stomach acid quickly.
  • Histamine 2 blockers – These drugs reduce the amount of acid produced in the stomach.
  • Proton pump inhibitors – These drugs also reduce stomach acid production. However, they are more effective than histamine II blockers. Example: Omeprazole.
Gastric problems caused by bacteria called Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori gastritis).

Many people are infected with this bacteria but do not realize it. Many people have stomach infections with this bacteria, but usually have no symptoms. However, this bacteria can cause repeated indigestion by causing inflammation in the lining of the stomach.

This problem is more common in the elderly and is usually responsible for chronic (persistent) non-erosive cases. The infection usually lasts a lifetime unless treated to eradicate the bacteria.

Certain antibiotics along with proton pump inhibitors need to be taken for a certain period of time to eradicate the bacteria.

What can you do for Gastric Relief?

If you think you have gastric problems due to repeated use of painkillers (NSAIDs), a 'non-NSAID' painkiller, such as paracetamol, can be used. Consult a doctor about this.

You can also do these 5 things below:
  1. Eating small, frequent meals.
  2. Foods that harm the stomach like spicy and fried foods should be avoided.
  3. Abstain from alcohol or avoid it as much as possible.
  4. Quit smoking if you have a habit of smoking.
  5. Coping with stress.

What are the possible complications of gastric?

Suffering from this disease for a long time may increase the risk of the following diseases:
  • Stomach ulcer or ulcer
  • Stomach polyps (small lumps from the lining of the stomach)
  • Tumors of the stomach, which can also be cancerous.

Gastritis or gastroenteritis?

  • Gastroenteritis is an inflammation of the stomach and intestines caused by a bacterial infection.
  • Gastritis is simply inflammation of the lining of the stomach, which is not always caused by a bacterial infection.
